Ask A Millennial

A new age is upon us ~ one depicting the dawn of surprising events. I dare to even question the peculiar paradigm shift that has occurred … Yet, has FOMO officially converted to none other than JOMO??!

Fear Of Missing Out, or in other words best described by it’s acronym FOMO, is a common diagnosis amongst Millennials. I joke, because it is obviously not literally an illness, yet the feeling itself does leave one feeling rather sick.

~

This fear of missing out in all of the great fun, enjoyment and amusing events that are surely taking place without you may easily leave you with

fantasies of grandeur that inspire loneliness, exclusion, sadness and even depression. Yet, the Joy of Missing Out has completely shifted the aspirations of the vast majority of Millennials versus former generations!

However, amidst various remarkable arrivals noted by the New Year, FOMO’s transformation into JOMO is one of the most profound. The significance of a paradigm shift like this one is invaluable, as it illuminates the vivaciously independent, thriving new energy that characterizes new age Millennial culture! The aptitude to choose positive self esteem over the group mentality, personal amusement versus collective compromise, and ultimately, inner peace before outter chaos.

Millennials have gotten at least one thing right by expressing authentic appreciation for the technologies and various luxuries granted by an inter-connected online community that spanes the entire globe! Whether a night in benefits from : Puff snacks and refreshments or UberEats restaurant food delivery ; Netflix, Hulu or Fire Stick television subscriptions ; the Youtube channel surfing of trendy vloggers, viewing personal accounts of wordwide bloggers and international tweets from all including peers to presidents, Facebook posts ; Instagram modeling and Snapchat quick-clip videograpghy ; or the abundant avenues for online video gaming … the possibilities are endless!

However fortunate or unfortunate this paradigm shift may be, it exists and has begun to thrive within a society that otherwise promotes over-exertion (especially in the work place) and looks disgustingly upon self care and positive self-esteem as though they are the essence of narcissism. Yet, the reality is that if a Millennial desires to be vainly admired, a funny photo or the right motivational quote is all that’s necessary. Also as apparent, if a Millennial wants sex, well then you already know how simply that too may arrive!

There is essentially no good reason to leave home on any non-eventful weekend or mid-week late night in which former generations would of most likely bar hopped or dance clubbed the night away! Yet, drinks and dance parties too can be arranged upon delivery to any Millennial’s home; especially in the event one lives with roommates, a spouse, friends and/or family members. Let’s be honest, how many of us actually get together with multiple friends semi-regularly?

Millennials cherish complete alone time, as well as comfy, cushiony, plush settings designed for immaculate quiet (or noisy ;-) vegetation, and likewise, the celebration of their personal uniqueness, individual stylistic ambiance, authentic aura and so much more that allows a soul to shine bright { like a diamond } !!!
